Ten Little Dinosaurs 

 

이번 그림책은 정말... 어려웠다.

직독직해로 해결할 수 있는 수준이 아니라 선생님에게 부탁을 드려 전반적으로 의역을 했다.
공룡 이름이랑 내용을 재미있게 연결해서 쓰여져 있지만, 원어민이 아닌 나로써는 꽤나 어려웠던 책.

지금은 어느정도 이해가 되어서 다시 심바에게 읽어주려고 정리를 해본다.

Ten little dinosaurs bouncing on the bed, Pachycephalosaurus fell off and broke his head.
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said, ‘No more boneheads bouncing on the bed.”
10마리의 작은 공룡들이 침대 위에서 튕겨나오고, 파키세팔로사우루스는 떨어져서 그의 머리가 깨졌다.
엄마가 의사를 불렀고 의사는 "돌머리들, 침대 위에서 더 이상 뛰지 마"라고 말했다.

 

Nine little dinosaurs riding on a bike, Stegosaurus crashed and smashed his spike.
The policeman yelled from atop his trike, “No more nut-brains riding on a bike.”

9마리의 작은 공룡들이 자전거를 타고, 스테고사우루스는 충돌하여 그의 스파이크를 박살냈다.
그 경찰관은 그의 트라이크 위에서 "견과류 두뇌는 더 이상 자전거를 타고 다니면 안 된다"고 소리쳤다.

 

* crash : 부딪치다

* smash : 세게 충돌하다, 박살내다

*  atop : 꼭대기에

Eight little dinosaurs munching on a mooth, Tyrannosaurus chomped and broke his tooth.

여덟 마리의 작은 공룡들이 mooth 를 우적우적 먹고, 티라노사우루스는 쩝쩝 먹고 이빨을 부러뜨렸다.

 

* munch : 우적우적 먹다

* chomp : 쩝쩝 먹다

The dentist shouted from his dentist booth, “No more sharp-tooths munching on a mooth!”

치과의사는 치과의사 부스에서 "뾰족한 이들, 더 이상 mooth 를 우적우적 씹지 말아라" 하고 외쳤다.

Seven little dinosaurs rafting down a river, Spinosaurus flipped over and went all aquiver.
The lifeguard said, with a cold, wet shiver, “No more silly-sails rafting down the river.”

7마리의 작은 공룡들이 뗏목을 타고 강을 따라 내려오다가, 스피노사우루스는 몸을 뒤집고 모두 부들부들 떨며 갔다.

구조대원은, 추위와 축축함에 떨며, "silly-sails (엉뚱한 돛들아), 더 이상 강물 따라 뗏목 타지 말아라."고 말했다.

 

* rafting : 래프팅

* raft : 뗏목

* flip over : 홱 뒤집히다

* aquiver : 부들부들 떨며

* shiver : (추위두려움흥분 등으로 가볍게) (몸을) 떨다

Six little dinosaurs jumping off a peak, Archaeopteryx dove and tweaked his beak.
One called the ranger and the ranger shrieked, “No more feather-heads jumping off a peak!”

산봉우리에서 뛰어내리는 6마리의 공룡들, 아르카오페릭스는 뛰어내려 그의 부리를 비틀었다.  
누군가 경비원을 불렀고 경비원이 "깃털이 달린 머리들, 더 이상 봉우리에서 뛰어내리지 마!"라고 비명을 질렀다.

 

* dove : 비둘기

* weak : 약한, 힘이 없는
* beak : (새의) 부리

* ranger : 공원 관리원

* shriek : (날카롭게) 악을 쓰며 말하다, 꽥 소리를 지르다

* feather : (새의) 털, 깃털

 

Five little dinosaurs playing in the street, Ankylosaurus yelled, “A car to beat!‘
He changed the street: squeal, screech, bleet, spleet, No more dino-tanks playing in the street.
거리에서 놀고 있는 다섯 마리의 작은 공룡들, 안킬로사우루스가 “저 차를 앞지르자!”라고 외쳤다.
그는 차선을 바꾸었다 : 끼익, 빽, 삡, 공룡 탱크들, 더 이상 거리에서 놀지 말아라.

 

* beat : 1.(게임·시합에서) 이기다 2.통제하다

* squeal : 비명

* screech : 날카로운 외침, 끽끽하는 소리

 

Four little dinosaurs Acting sorta cool, Supersaurus wore his shades to school.
The teacher sighed, “Why that’s against the rules.”
No more super-lizards acting sorta cool.

멋진 척을 하는 4마리 공룡들, 슈퍼사우루스는 학교에 모자를 쓰고 갔다.
선생님은 한숨을 쉬며, “그건 규칙 위반이야.”
“수퍼 도마뱀들, 더 이상 멋있는 척 하지 말아라.”

 

* sorta : (sort of) 1. 어느 정도   2. 뭐랄까(적절한 말이 생각나지 않을 때 쓰는 말)

* lizard : 도마뱀

Three little dinosaurs on a camp-out, Chasmosaurus asked, “What’s a lava tube about?”
He slid the tube, then blasted out the spout, No more frill-seekers on a camp-out.

세 마리의 작은 공룡들이 캠프장에 있는데,  차스모사우루스가 "용암 동굴이란 게 뭐야?” 라고 물었다.
그는 둥굴을 미끄러져서, 입구에서 분출해 나왔다,  “Frill 찾는 것들, 더 이상 캠프에 오지 말아라.”

 

* lava tube : 용암 동굴

* blast : 폭발시키다, 폭파하다
* spout : (액체의) 분출, (특히 액체를) 내뿜다; 뿜어져 나오다, 분출되다

 

Two little dinosaurs watching baseball, Saurolophus yelled, “Hey, that’s a bad call!”
The umpire didn’t like that talk at all, No more big mouths watching baseball.

두 마리의 작은 공룡이 야구를 보고 있는데, 소롤로푸스는 “야, 판정이 잘못 됐잖아!”라고 소리쳤다.
심판은 그 말을 듣고 기분이 나빠서, “말이 헤픈 것들은 더 이상 야구를 보지 마”라고 말했다.

One little dinosaur walking all alone, The sun burnt Triceratops into dried-up bones.

작은 공룡 한 마리가 혼자 걷는데, 태양이 트리게라톱스를 말라 비트러진 뼈로 불태워버렸다. 

 

burnt : 탄, (불에) 덴

“Look,” called the scientist, “at all these fossil stones.”
No more three-horns walking all alone.

"봐" 과학자는 불렀다, "이 모든 화석들을"
혼자 걷는 트리게라톱스는 더 이상 없었다. 

 

* horn : 뿔

no more dinosaurs hanging on the brink, They all disappeared in a geologic wink.
The doctor cried, “Well, this just stinks! Poor little dinosaurs all extinct.”

벼랑 끝 (강가 끝) 에 노는 공룡들은 더 이상 없었다, 그들은 모두 눈 깜짝할 사이에 사라졌다.
의사가 외쳤다, “음, 이거 난감한데! 불쌍한 공룡들이 모두 멸종했어.”

* wink : 순간, 찰나
