MY trip to the hospital

We were playing soccer and the score was tied. I ran and kicked the ball as hard as I could, but the goalie was in the way.
우리는 축구를 하다가 동점이 되었어요. 달려와 힘껏 공을 찼지만 골키퍼가 가로막았습니다.


"Goal!" shouted Tiger. "We won!"
"골!” 타이거는 소리쳤습니다. "우리가 이겼어요!"

"Ow!" I screamed.
“으악!"하고 나는 소리를 질렀어요.

My leg hurt a lot, but I hardly cried at all.
“Don't worry, Little Critter," said Dad.
“You'll be okay," said Mom.
다리가 많이 아팠지만, 거의 울지 않았어요.
"걱정 말아라, 리틀 크리터." 아빠가 말했습니다.
"괜찮을거야," 엄마가 말했어요.

An ambulance came. I was put on this skinny bed called a stretcher and then I got carried off the field.
구급차가 왔어요. 들것이라고 불리는 이 얇은 침대에 누워 있다가 들판에서 실려 나갔습니다.

The whole soccer team waved good-bye.
축구팀 전체가 손을 흔들며 작별 인사를 했습니다.

Mom came with me in the ambulance. I held her hand because she looked a little scared.
엄마가 구급차에 같이 타고 왔어요. 그녀가 조금 무서워 보여서 제가 그녀의 손을 잡았어요.

When we got to the hospital, I got to ride on the stretcher all the way inside.
병원에 도착했을 때, 저는 들것에 타고 안까지 갔습니다.

A nurse listened to my heart with this thing called a stethoscope.
한 간호사가 청진기라고 불리는 것으로 제 심장소리를 들었습니다.

Then she let me try the stethoscope on Mom.
그리고 나서 그녀는 제가 엄마에게 청진기를 써보게 해 주셨어요.

 "Wow, Mom, your heart is beating really fast," I said.
 "와, 엄마, 당신 심장이 정말 빨리 뛰고 있어요,"라고 나는 말했습니다.

The nurse gave me a big lollipop and told me I was very, very brave.
간호사가 큰 사탕을 주면서 제가 아주 용감하다고 하더군요.

The doctor came to examine my leg.
의사가 제 다리를 검사하러 왔어요.

"This may hurt a little," he said.
"약간 아플수 있어요," 라고 그가 말했습니다.

It sure did, but I took a deep breath and counted backwards 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. . . and then it was over.
물론 그랬죠. 하지만 숨을 깊이 들이쉬고 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1을 거꾸로 세었습니다. 그리고 나서 끝났어요.

"You have a broken leg, Little Critter," he said.
"다리가 부러졌어요, 리틀 크리터"라고 그는 말했습니다.

 "Do you have the right tools to fix it?" I asked.
 "이걸 고치는데 적당한 장비가 있어요?" 하고 물었어요.

The doctor nodded. Then he gave me a cool sticker that said LITTLE CHAMP because he said I was a real champ.
의사는 고개를 끄덕였습니다. 그랬더니 진짜 챔피언이라고 해서 리틀 챔프라고 써있는 멋진 스티커를 줬어요.

Next I went to have special pictures taken called X-rays. The nurse took the pictures with this big machine that could have been on a spaceship. She said the X-rays showed all the bones in my leg.
다음에 엑스레이라는 특별한 사진을 찍으러 갔습니다. 간호사는 우주선에나 있을 법한 이 큰 기계로 사진을 찍었어요. 엑스레이를 보니 다리에 있는 뼈가 다 보인다고 하더군요.

"You know, Super critter has X-ray vision," I told the nurse. "That means he can see through stuff, too, just like this machine."
"있잖아요, 수퍼 크리터에겐 투시력이 있어요."간호사에게 말했죠. "그도 물건을 꿰뚫어 볼 수 있단 뜻이예요, 이 기계처럼 말이죠."

After that, it was time to get my cast. The doctor started wrapping bandages all around my leg.
그리고 나서, 붕대를 감을 시간이 왔어요. 의사가 제 다리에 붕대를 감기 시작했어요.

"I feel like a mummy," I said.
"저는 미이라처럼 느껴져요,"라고 나는 말했습니다.

A little while later, the nurse came to check my cast.
조금 후에 간호사가 제 깁스를 확인하러 왔어요.

She said I could go home soon, but first...
그녀는 내가 곧 집에 갈 수 있다고 말했지만 먼저 ...

... I  had to learn how to use my crutches. My cast sure was heavy. It almost made me fall over...
목발 쓰는 법을 배워야 했어요 제 깁스는 확실히 무거웠어요. 하마터면 넘어질 뻔 했어요...

... but I kept trying.
하지만 계속 노력했어요

Finally, I got it right. "Good jop, Little Critter!" said the nurse. "Now you can go home."
드디어 목발 짚는 법을 터득했어요. "잘했어요, 리틀 크리터!" 간호사가 말했어요. "이제 집에 가도 돼요."

Little Sister and Dad picked us up.

여동생과 아빠가 우릴 데리러 왔어요.

Everybody wanted to help me with my crutches, but I told them I could do it myself. I walked all the way to the front door and I barely slipped once.
목발을 짚은 나를 모두 도와주고 싶어했지만, 난 혼자서도 할 수 있다고 말했어요. 나는 현관문까지 혼자 걸어갔고 거의 한 번도 넘어지지 않았어요.

Mom made spaghetti and meatballs, my favorite dinner in the whole workd, and I got to eat it in front of the TV.
엄마는 내가 가장 좋아하는 스파게티와 미트볼을 만들었고,  저녁은 TV 앞에서 먹었습니다.

I was sure happy to be home.
집에 와서 정말 행복했어요.

At school, everyone said I was a hero.
학교에서, 모든 사람들이 저를 영웅이라고 말했어요.

"We won the game all because of you, Little Critter," said Tiger.
"우리는 네 덕분에 이겼어, 리틀 크리터"라고 타이거는 말했습니다.

Then all my friends signed my cast.
그리고 나서 모든 친구들이 제 깁스에 사인을 했어요.

By the time they were done...
다 끝났을 때쯤...

... it looked like a rainbow!
... 무지개처럼 보였어요!
