one day seven blind mice were surprised to find a strange something by their pond.

어느날 일곱마리의 눈먼 쥐들은 연못가에서 이상한 것을 발견하고 놀랐다.

 

red mouse went first to find out.

빨간 생쥐가 먼저 알아내기 위해 갔다.

 

*pillar: 기둥

 

Green mouse set out.

he was the second to go.

녹색 생쥐가 출발했다.

그는 두번째로 갔다.

 

*Spear: 창, 작살로 잡다

 

he was the third in turn.

그는 세번째 차례였다.

 

*Great cliff: 대절벽, 큰절벽

*fifth:다섯 번째의

*Fan: 선풍기, 부채

*Pond: 연못

 

when she came upon the something, she ran up one side, and she ran down the other.

그녀가 뭔가를 발견했을때, 그녀는 한쪽으로 뛰어올랐고, 다른쪽으로 뛰어내려갔다.

 

*came upon: 발견하다

 

she ran across the top and from end to end.

그녀는 꼭대기를 가로질러 끝에서 끝까지 달렸다.

 

as sturdy as a pillar, 기둥처럼 튼튼한

supple as a snake, 뱀처럼 유연한

wide as a cliff, 절벽처럼 넓은

sharp as a spear, 창처럼 날카로운

breezy as a fan, 부채처럼 산들바람이 부는

stringy as a rope, 밧줄처럼 심줄 투성이인

 

*sturdy : 튼튼한, 견고한, 단단한

*supple: 유연한

*Breezy: 산들바람이 부는

*stringy: 실 같은, 심줄 투성이의

 

but altogether the something is..

하지만 전체적으로 뭔가..

 

when the other mice ran up one side and down the other, across the something from end to end, they agreed.

다른 쥐들이 한쪽을 뛰어오르고 다른쪽 아래를 내려가보고, 끝에서 끝까지 가로질러 본 후 그들은 동의했다.

 

*the mouse moral: 쥐의 교훈

 

knowing in part may make a fine tale, but wisdom comes from seeing the whole.
